MINISTRY DESCRIPTION

Working under the leadership of the Senior Pastor, the Skyline Baptist Worship Leader

should provide spiritual leadership during worship services through the gift of music and

prayer, sharing the word of God and the news of Jesus Christ through the use of song,

multimedia, visual and non-visual performances, to help the congregation and community

understand and experience the love of Christ and develop a strong foundation in faith. A

Worship Leader should set the example for others and seek to honor the Lord by preparing

for, facilitating, and leading creative worship experiences. In addition to the primary

worship related responsibilities, this position has been uniquely designed to include the

Administration and oversight of many church functions outlined below. While only to be

used as a guideline, it is expected that this position will have a time allocation of 60%-70%

to worship related activities and 30%-40% being allocated to administrative related

activities.

ANTICIPATED TIME COMMITMENT

THIS MINISTRY POSITION IS ESTIMATED TO BE BETWEEN40-50 HOURS PER WEEK WITH TWO DAYS

OFF DURING EACH WEEK (DAYS OFF TO BE COORDINATED WITH SR. PASTOR). THE SCHEDULE OF DAYS

MAY CHANGE BASED UPON SCHEDULING NEEDS. OTHER EXPECTED TIME OFF INCLUDING VACATION

TIME, TRAINING, CONFERENCES, ETC. WILL BE PROVIDED AND SHOULD BE COORDINATED WITH SR.

PASTOR. CONSIDERING THE TIME COMMITMENT NEEDED, NEED FOR COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT, AND

NEEDED FLEXIBILITY RELATING TO ADDRESS MINISTRY NEEDS, SKYLINE STAFF MEMBERS SHOULD RESIDE

WITHIN A 20 MILE RADIUS OF THE CHURCH, HOWEVER CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN FOR SPECIAL

CIRCUMSTANCES.

AN ESTABLISHED WEEKLY WORK SCHEDULE IS EXPECTED WHICH WILL INCLUDE REGULAR AND

CONSISTENT WORK HOURS. ALL STAFF ARE EXPECTED TO BE AT WORK FROM 8:30 – 4:30 MONDAY

THROUGH THURSDAY WITH FRIDAYS HAVING SPECIAL SCHEDULING TO BE COORDINATED WITH SENIOR

PASTOR. STAFF MEMBERS ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN THEIR WORK DAY AT THE CHURCH OFFICE

BEGINNING AT 8:30 A.M. IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT SOME DEVIATION MAY OCCUR FROM TIME TO TIME

DUE TO UNFORESEEN EVENTS (THESE SHOULD BE COMMUNICATED TO PASTOR ASAP).

STAFF MEMBERS ARE TO SHARE SCHEDULES, APPOINTMENTS, EVENTS, ETC. WITH CHURCH

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT IN ADVANCE SO THAT A COORDINATED CENTRAL CALENDAR CAN BE

MAINTAINED GOING FORWARD. ANY CHANGES SHOULD ALSO BE COMMUNICATED TO KEEP THE

CALENDAR CURRENT.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

ALL MINISTRY POSITIONS AT SKYLINE BAPTIST CHURCH ARE EXPECTED TO COMPLY WITH EXISTING

INTERNAL POLICIES AS WELL AS ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL AND STATE LAWS. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

AND DUTIES FOR THE SKYLINE BAPTIST WORSHIP LEADER INCLUDE BUT MAY NOT BE LIMITED TO THE

FOLLOWING:

WORSHIP RELATED

WORSHIP MINISTRY THROUGH MUSIC

 PREPARE FOR AND LEAD WORSHIP DURING SERVICES. CURRENTLY INCLUDES TRADITIONAL AND

BLENDED SUNDAY MORNING SERVICES (MOVING TOWARD A MORE CONTEMPORARY 2ND SERVICE

FOR SUNDAY A.M.) ,ALSO SUNDAY AND WEDNESDAY EVENING SERVICES, AND OTHER PLANNED

EVENTS.

 WORSHIP SHOULD NOT BE LIMITED TO ROUTINE MUSIC SELECTIONS, BUT RATHER UNDER THE

LEADERSHIP OF GOD’S SPIRIT, WORSHIP SHOULD BE CREATIVE, APPROPRIATE, COMPELLING, AND

AT TIMES EVEN SPONTANEOUS.

 WELL ORGANIZED, PRE-PLANNED SERVICES SHOULD BE THE NORMAL STANDARD WITH THE

WILLINGNESS TO CHANGE AS GOD LEADS.

 MUSIC SELECTIONS SHOULD BE REHEARSED AHEAD OF SERVICE TIMES WITH WORSHIP LEADER

BEING PREPARED TO LEAD THESE PRACTICES.

 PRACTICE SESSIONS SHOULD BE STRUCTURED, ORGANIZED, WITH CONSIDERATION BEING GIVEN TO

PRAISE TEAM MEMBERS

 WHEN CONSIDERING MUSIC SELECTIONS AND ORDER OF SERVICE, COORDINATE WITH PASTOR TO

ENSURE THAT OBJECTIVES ARE CONSISTENT.

 SPECIAL SERVICE PREPARATION (IF APPLICABLE). CHRISTMAS, EASTER, AND PATRIOTIC SERVICES

ARE SPECIAL TIMES WHICH DESERVE SPECIAL PLANNING, ADEQUATE RESOURCES, AND

PREPARATION. THE WORSHIP LEADER SHOULD BEGIN TO ADDRESS THE PLANNING OF THESE

SERVICES EARLY IN THE CALENDAR YEAR AND WORK TO ENSURE THAT THESE EVENTS ARE

SUCCESSFUL.

WORSHIP MINISTRY THROUGH DISCIPLESHIP AND OUTREACH

GIVEN THE FACT THAT THIS IS A PART TIME POSITION AND MOST IF NOT ALL TIME SHOULD BE SPENT ON

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES, IF TIME SHOULD ALLOW, THE FOLLOWING OUTREACH ACTIVITIES ARE DESIRABLE.

 ACTIVELY RECRUIT AND INVITE MEMBERS TO JOIN THE PRAISE TEAM / CHOIR INCLUDING BOTH

SINGERS AND MUSICIANS

 SEEK TO MENTOR THOSE WHOM ARE INVOLVED IN WORSHIP MINISTRIES BY LEADING IN

PRAYER, BIBLE STUDIES, AND DEVOTIONS WHEN APPROPRIATE

 PRAY FOR, UPLIFT AND MINISTER TO THOSE WHO ARE INVOLVED IN THE WORSHIP MINISTRY

 WORK TO FACILITATE WORSHIP RELATED PROGRAMS WHICH ARE ACTIVELY SEEKING MORE

PARTICIPANTS AND SEEK TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH THOSE INVOLVED

 ASSIST AND PARTICIPATE IN CHURCH VISITATION PROGRAMS

WORSHIP MINISTRY THROUGH TECHNOLOGY

 A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF COMPUTERS SOFTWARE & HARDWARE, THE INTERNET, LIGHTING,

SOUND, MEDIA, AND A GOOD GENERAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE APPLICATION OF TECHNOLOGY

WITHIN WORSHIP MINISTRY IS NEEDED. CURRENT EXAMPLES INCLUDE:

PREPARING POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS FOR SERVICES (MUSIC, ANNOUNCEMENTS,

OTHER)

ENSURE SOUND-VIDEO SYSTEM IS SET UP AND WORKING PROPERLY PRIOR TO

SERVICE OR REHEARSAL TIME

ENSURE OTHER HARDWARE, MIKES, INSTRUMENTS, PROJECTORS, LIGHTING, ETC. ARE

FUNCTIONAL AND CARED FOR PROPERLY

MAY WORK ON SPECIAL PROJECTS AS DIRECTED BY PASTOR

ADMINISTRATION RELATED

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES ARE FOCUSED IN THE AREAS OF FACILITY MANAGEMENT,

EVENT COORDINATION AND OVERSIGHT, MINISTRY, DEVELOPING CERTAIN AREAS OF THE

CHURCH, AND SPECIAL PROJECTS:

 OVERSEEING THE CALENDARING OF EVENTS FOR SKYLINE FACILITIES IN COORDINATION

WITH OTHER SENIOR PASTOR. ADMINISTRATE ALL FACILITY USAGE REQUESTS.

REVIEWING AND FINALIZING AGREEMENTS-FEE SCHEDULE WITH THOSE EVENT

ORGANIZERS. ENSURING POST EVENT CLEANUP AND FACILITY READINESS

 WORK CLOSELY WITH PASTOR AND FINANCE TEAM FOR APPROVAL OF NEEDED

EXPENDITURES

 PROVIDE PUBLIC RELATIONS INFORMATION AS NEEDED IN COORDINATION WITH KAREN

HALFPOP

 ASSURE THAT ROUTINE FACILITY/GROUNDS REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE ARE BEING

PERFORMED PROPERLY AND ON A TIMELY BASIS. IF DEFICIENCIES ARE PRESENT,

COMMUNICATE THESE TO PASTOR. WORK WITH TRUSTEES ON BUILDING RELATED

MATTERS WHEN APPROPRIATE PARTICULARLY ON NON-ROUTINE PROJECTS WHICH THEY

WOULD NEED TO BE INVOLVED IN.

 WHEN NEEDED, ORGANIZE AND COORDINATE VOLUNTEER EFFORTS FOR SPECIAL

PROJECTS

 COORDINATE WITH KITCHEN SUPERVISOR (TERRY HOSKINS) WHEN NECESSARY TO

FACILITATE KITCHEN WORKERS IN FOODSERVICE/SPECIAL EVENTS RELATED PROJECTS

 REMAIN GENERALLY ABREAST OF APPROPRIATE LAWS, CODES, AND POLICIES

REGARDING FACILITY COMPLIANCE, PERSONAL SAFETY, AMERICAN DISABILITIES ACT,

AND ACCIDENT PREVENTION.

 FACILITATE VOLUNTEER(S) TO REVIEW AND UPDATE AS NEEDED CHURCH DATA BASE

FOR MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY. DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN PROGRAM IF NEEDED TO

INCLUDE MEMBER INFORMATION

 ASSIST PASTOR WITH MINISTRY OUTREACH INCLUDING VISITATION ACTIVITIES. HELP

IDENTIFY THOSE IN NEED AND REPORT TO PASTOR SO THAT NEEDS CAN BE ADDRESSED

 FACILITATE BAPTISTRY OVERSIGHT TEAM TO ENSURE THAT BAPTISTRY IS READY PRIOR

TO SERVICE. ESTABLISH A TEAM TO OVERSEE THE PROCESS INCLUDING SET-UP AND

CLEAN-UP.

 SPECIAL PROJECTS: FACILITATE ACTIVE NOMINATING COMMITTEE AND PLAN TO SERVE

ON THAT TEAM (NOT AS CHAIRMAN BUT IN A SUPPORT ROLE). MEMBERS WILL NEED TO

BE VOTED ON BY CHURCH. SERVE AS THE TEAM LEADER FOR THE REVIEW AND

UPDATE OF THE SKYLINE CHURCH CONSTITUTION, CHURCH POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

AND OTHER GOVERNING DOCUMENTS. THIS WORK MUST BE ACCOMPLISHED WORKING

CLOSELY WITH PASTOR AND ULTIMATELY CHANGES TO GOVERNING DOCUMENTS WILL

NEED TO BE APPROVED BY THE CHURCH BODY.

 ATTEND ALL MINISTRY STAFF MEETINGS AND OTHER MEETINGS AS REQUESTED BY

PASTOR

 IDENTIFY NEEDED TRAINING/CONFERENCE/SPECIAL EVENT RELATED ACTIVITIES FOR

POSITION DEVELOPMENT AND REPORT THESE TO PASTOR FOR CONSIDERATION AND

PLANNING.
